Latest from the League |
Every 10 years, Congressional and other legislative districts are reapportioned. LWV believes that new lines should be apportioned substantially on population. We oppose partisan and racial gerrymandering that strips rights away from voters. (Gerrymandering is manipulating the boundaries of an electoral constituency so as to favor one party or class.)
Dr. Anne Catlla will explain gerrymandering and redistricting in an understandable way and can speak as part of the League's state team addressing redistricting in South Carolina. As an applied mathematician, Dr. Catlla, a postdoctoral associate at Duke University, applies mathematical methods to a wide range of physical phenomena, learning about a variety of interesting subjects in the process. The League of Women Voters of Spartanburg County has a General Meeting each month, usually on the third Tuesday of the month. These meetings are free and open to the public and are a non-partisan setting for voter education and services.
