The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization,
- encourages informed and active participation in government,
- works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and
- influences public policy through education and advocacy.
The League of Women Voters never supports or opposes candidates for office or political parties and any use of the League of Women Voters name in campaign advertising or literature has not been authorized by the League.

The state and national League of Women Voters sites also have resources to engage citizens in the grassroots activity of democracy: LWV.org, LWVSC.org
The League of Women Voters has a 2-year cycle of program planning so the positions espoused by the League are reflective of the membership of the League. Program planning is the grassroots process of recommending and selecting governmental issues for study and agreement in reaching a position. Once consensus has been reached, both the national and state Leagues produce a comprehensive document for their respective programs.
